It is now 2018 and we look back at our achievements throughout the year. We have been increasingly busy by creating work for top blockbuster films including: Logan, Despicable 3, Kong: Skull Island, The Great Wall, Ghost in the Shell, Alien Covenant, Baywatch, and many others. These graphics also allowed us to offer new products including: inflatable and customized large scale backlit prop and display using our T3 System. This year we expanded our locations in New York and other cities in the United States. We also created large scale step and repeats for Miss Universe and a pop-up for Air Jordan. Wonder Woman was not just your typical superhero film from DC Comics. Instead it was the first female director of a live-action superhero film (Patty Jenkins) and showed a female comic book character played by Gal Gadot. Other actors include: Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, and Chris Pine. Wonder Woman debuted in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film tells a different story then the 1980s Wonder Woman TV show. Instead, Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) grows up on the Amazon island of Themyscira. Steve Trevor, an American pilot crashes near the island and is rescued by the Wonder Woman. Trevor tells of the war going on outside the island area. This pushes Diana to go with him to end World War. It premiered in Shanghai, China on May 15, 2017 and later in the U.S. on June 2, 2017. Kong: Skull Island is another reboot of the franchise that stars Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, and Brie Larson. The plot follows a team of scientists and soldiers who land on a deserted island in the Pacific. They encounter lots of monsters including the gigantic Kong. It was primarily shot in Hawaii and around Vietnam starting October 2015. It was considered a success at the box office and with the critics. It took home $566 million worldwide. There is already a sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong to release in 2020. Kong: Skull Island is now available for Direct TV. Olson Visual installed numerous graphics for the film. This included: column wraps, escalator, elevator, window, and parking graphics. They also created a costume and prop display and a large graphic using their famous T3 System. Olson Visual worked on many Academy Award nominated films. Here are a few selected images of the work they did. They created a wonderful marquee for Florence Foster Jenkins, a film that stars Meryl Streep. She is once again nominated for Best Actress playing a non-fictional character a comedy. Olson Visual did a fantastic marquee for the film Sully, which is nominated for Best Sound Editing. Check out the OV’s T3 structure for the movie Arrival. Sully is a biographical drama about the American hero Captain Chesley Sullenberger who landed a plane in the Hudson river. Sully was a US Airways pilot who on January 15, 2009, was leaving LaGuardia Airport with a packed plane. Only three minutes into the flight, a flock of birds ran into the Airbus A320, causing both engines to stop working. Along with First Officer Jeff Skiles, they had only seconds to make a decision on the future of hundreds of passengers. The air traffic controllers were giving them clearance on two air strips but Sully felt it was too far away. So, he decided to do an emergency water landing in front of him. During a hearing about the incident, with further investigation, it was concluded that Sully made the correct decision and saved hundreds of lives. It is the beginning of 2017 and we look at last year with some exciting achievements. We created many graphics for the top movies including: a billboard for the Everest, photo opp graphics for The Angry Birds Movie, backlit graphics for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a large costume and prop display for the film Warcraft. Another highlight was creating the large banners for the opening of the Cerritos Theater. 2016 was also a year that we entered the European marketplace at CineEurope.
The Accountant came out October 14th in theaters across the United States. It stars Ben Affleck, John Lithgow, and Anna Kendrick. It follows an autistic public accountant who un-cooks the books on large-scale criminals. The film premiered in Los Angeles and has had mixed reviews. However, it has been a box office hit. Christian Wolff is a forensic accountant in Illinois. His childhood was unfortunate as his mother could not deal with his autism. His dad, instead, taught him and his brother combat skills. Christian is pursued by Raymond King of the Treasury Department. King tries to blackmail an analyst in identifying Wolff. This will expose the criminals that Wolff is connected to. With more then four hundred screens, Harkins Theaters is the largest family owned theater chain in the U.S. Recently, they opened a new movie destination on May 5th at the Los Cerritos Center. Olson Visual was invited to do all the graphics. Within a week and a day, OV completed all of the signage for the opening. The first install took place on April 26th and the second was May 5th. This included seven exterior banners and an interior barricade using vinyl material for Cina 1 auditorium. Six of the outside graphics measured fifteen feet wide by twenty foot long while the “Now Open” signage was 440″ x 61″. These were some large-scale pieces! The sixteen theaters will be showing: The Huntsmen: Winter War, Captain America: Civil War, Keanu, The Boss, and Mothers Day to name a few. The critics have bashed the all-anticipated “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” but some feel it was entertaining. The film was announced at the famous Comic-Con in 2013. This was right after the release of Man of Steel and was supposed to be inspired by The Dark Knight Returns book. The new super hero movie was supposed to show a different Batman from the other previous films. That is, Batman would have a reboot with a different personality bu this might be the reason for the negative reviews. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiered in Mexico City on March 19, 2016 and in the US on March 25th. The critics responded by saying the plot was predictable, the characters weren’t developed enough, and the action was weak. Olson Visual is proud to have worked on the Academy Award nominated films including Joy, Everest, Mad Max, The Martian, Steve Jobs, Straight Outta Compton, and The Danish Girl. On February 29th, the ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre. Some went home empty handed while others won numerous golds. One in particular was the science fiction film, Mad Max Fury Road which took home five Academy Awards including best: Production Design, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Sound Editing, Costume Design, and Makeup. Alicia Vikander took the gold home for her work in The Danish Girl. The Martian was nominated for Production Design, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing and Editing but went home empty handed. Sicario was nominated for Cinematography but lost to Revenant. Straight Outta Compton was a contender for Best Original Screenplay but instead the film Spotlight won which also won for Best Picture.
