Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is an adventure comedy that is the sequel to the 1995 film Jumanji. The franchise is based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. The new film pays tribute to Robin Williams, the star of the original. This board game found in the first movie is transformed into a video game that four young teens play. These four teenagers are transported into the video game where they must win the game to go home. The film stars Jack Black, Nick Jonas, Bobby Cannavale, and Dwayne Johnson. Bladerunner 2049 is a neo-noirsccience fiction movie starring Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, and Harrison Ford. The film adopts similar technological advancements and set thirty years later from the original. Goslings character K, investigates a war between replicants and humans. K works for Wallace Corporation (a manufacturer of replicants) and uncovers a DNA archive of Rachael, one of the main characters from the original film. The CEO Niander Wallace wants to find the original child of Rachael and has K followed. K goes to a farm where he finds a carved tree and has a memory of a toy horse. He then realizes he might be the missing child. The movie was nominated for several Academy Awards but unfortunately, only took Best Cinematography and Visual Effects. Wonder Woman was not just your typical superhero film from DC Comics. Instead it was the first female director of a live-action superhero film (Patty Jenkins) and showed a female comic book character played by Gal Gadot. Other actors include: Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, and Chris Pine. Wonder Woman debuted in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film tells a different story then the 1980s Wonder Woman TV show. Instead, Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) grows up on the Amazon island of Themyscira. Steve Trevor, an American pilot crashes near the island and is rescued by the Wonder Woman. Trevor tells of the war going on outside the island area. This pushes Diana to go with him to end World War. It premiered in Shanghai, China on May 15, 2017 and later in the U.S. on June 2, 2017. Kong: Skull Island is another reboot of the franchise that stars Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, and Brie Larson. The plot follows a team of scientists and soldiers who land on a deserted island in the Pacific. They encounter lots of monsters including the gigantic Kong. It was primarily shot in Hawaii and around Vietnam starting October 2015. It was considered a success at the box office and with the critics. It took home $566 million worldwide. There is already a sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong to release in 2020. Kong: Skull Island is now available for Direct TV. Olson Visual installed numerous graphics for the film. This included: column wraps, escalator, elevator, window, and parking graphics. They also created a costume and prop display and a large graphic using their famous T3 System. Smurfs: The Lost Village is a fully 3D computer-animated film with the voices of Rainn Wilson, Michelle Rodriguez, Julia Roberts, and Demi Lovato. The movie is based off the comic book by Peyo. It was released on April 7, 2017 and is another addition to the series. Unfortunately, it was lowest-making movie of the Smurfs franchise and received mixed reviews. Olson Visual installed a customized T3 System graphic for Aquarium of the Pacific for the groundbreaking ceremony of Pacific Visions. On Feb. 2, 2017, celebrated the first major expansion of the facility. Spearkers included: Teresa Phillips of American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, Aquarium Board Chairman John Molina, and Long Beach City Councilmember Jeannine Pearce. “We are here today to begin the process of turning this space into a great vessel for education, learning, and science. As a former educator at Cal State Long Beach, I am also proud of the role the Aquarium has played in scientific research, stewardship, and education. As a resident of Long Beach I am especially proud of the role that the Aquarium has played in promoting ecology, conservation, and preservation of our seas. This year’s Power Rangers film came out in March earlier this year. It was directed by Dean Israelite and it the 3rd movie of the franchise reboot. It stars Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks. This is the first time that Hollywood has created LGBTQ and autistic superheroes. Unfortunately, it was a box office disappointment with mixed reviews. The Los City of Z is now available on Amazon to watch and highly recommend it. The film is a true story from the David Grann book by the same title. The main character is real-life explorer Percy Fawcett who was sent to Bolivia as a cartographer. While on his journey he finds evidence of a lost civilization that he calls “Z”. Him and two other man including Henry Costin (played by Robert Pattinson) make several attempts but never quite reach their destination. In his final attempt, he brings his son with him and they never return. Many experts felt they were caught by violent Indians and were murdered. There were many search parties that tried to find them (or their remains) but were unsuccessful.
