Phantom Thread is an American drama starring Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It is set in London’s couture fashion world in the year 1954. Day-Lewis is the world-renowned fashion designer, Reynolds Woodcock who takes a waitress as his muse. Woodcock creates clothing for the super rich and high society members. Then, he becomes interested in a young waitress and she decides to move in and become his lover, assistant, and muse. Reynolds starts to become aloof and makes Alma, the waitress, eager to please. This leads to fights because he just doesn’t pay enough attention to her. He is instead, married to his work. Phantom Thread was nominated for multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture, Actor, and… read more →
It is now 2018 and we look back at our achievements throughout the year. We have been increasingly busy by creating work for top blockbuster films including: Logan, Despicable 3, Kong: Skull Island, The Great Wall, Ghost in the Shell, Alien Covenant, Baywatch, and many others. These graphics also allowed us to offer new products including: inflatable and customized large scale backlit prop and display using our T3 System. This year we expanded our locations in New York and other cities in the United States. We also created large scale step and repeats for Miss Universe and a pop-up for Air Jordan. Check out a year to remember!
The Mummy is a reboot of the franchise Mummy starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. It premiered in Sydney Australia on May 22, 2017 and the United States release opened on June 9th. Unfortunately, the film had negative reviews and was considered a box office tragedy. It had such a high production cost. The Guardian had mentioned, “no amount of clunky expository dialogue can untangle this mess of bones, bandages and bald commercial cynicism”. But the movie has done well internationally. Perhaps, Tom Cruise brought in a lot more overseas crowd. This helped to even out the $125 million production budget. Olson Visual installed numerous graphics of the film. This included: window graphics at Union Square, banner Graphics at Harkins Cerritos, and window graphics at Burbank. OV is expanding and doing projects all over the United States and internationally. Check out these installation images! … read more →
Olson Visual recently created these amazing inflatable graphics for the third edition of Despicable Me. The graphics are very colorful, playful, and quite large in size. They are adorable! Check out these images from Cinemark in Culver City and Playa Vista. Despicable Me 3 is the sequel to the series and premiered on June 14th. It will be released in the US on June 30th. Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig return as voices in the film.
The Great Wall is an action-packed monster film starring Matt Damon and directed by Zhang Yimou (the creative behind the 2008 staging of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics). It takes place during the Song dynasty China. William, played by Damon, is captured by Chinese soldiers and later helps fight against the monsters. Most of the filming was done in Qingdao, China. Jing Tian plays the main female character who takes a liking to William. The two band together to fight off the monsters that are killing and taking over the wall. The movie cost over 150 million and only grossed $332 worldwide. It was the most expensive US-China production to date and considered a disappointment because of mixed reviews. Although, I found the movie entertaining and action-packed. Olson Visual created numerous graphics including: Save
It is the beginning of 2017 and we look at last year with some exciting achievements. We created many graphics for the top movies including: a billboard for the Everest, photo opp graphics for The Angry Birds Movie, backlit graphics for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a large costume and prop display for the film Warcraft. Another highlight was creating the large banners for the opening of the Cerritos Theater. 2016 was also a year that we entered the European marketplace at CineEurope.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the second edition to the fantasy adventures series. It is based off the old fairy tale “Snow White”. It is the directorial debut of Cedric Nicolas-Troyan who did the visual effects in the first film. It stars: Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain. Unfortunately, the movie made a little over the budget, almost hitting even at the box office ticket sales. Olson Visual installed a massive window display at the Edwards Long Beach. Warcraft is a film based on the well-known video game, World of Warcraft. It is one of the most played games ever and it’s popularity inspired the new film adaptation. It is directed by Duncan Jones and stars Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, and Robert Kazinsky. The movie shows how humans interact with orcs, a fantasy creature. It took ten years to make this picture with partnership starting in 2006 between Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment, the game’s developer. Unfortunately, the reviews have shown that the movie does not follow the video game. So, gamers might be sadly disappointed. On the lighter side, the special effects are incredible! Check out these images of our amazing Olson Visual team installing a large Orc from the film. See how they carefully pay attention to every detail of the character. Save Save
