Baywatch is a new film based off the 90s long-running TV series by the same name. The movie stars Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, Priyanka Chopra, and Kelly Rohrbach. Unlike the original series that was set in Malibu, this remake takes place in Broward County, Florida. The main story follows the character Mitch and his Baywatch team to save the beach from a drug dealer. Unfortunately, the film has had bad reviews saying it shouldn’t have turned it into a crime caper. There was a lot of positive critique that Johnson and Efron had great chemistry and are quite fun to watch. It has grossed already $173 million worldwide. CinemaCon originated in 2011 and has evolved to become one of the largest motion picture industry gatherings in the world. This will be the sixth edition that took place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 23 – 26. There was exclusive presentations from an all-star cast. Olson Visual created numerous graphics for the convention including: backlit graphics, murals, wall graphics, banners and marquees. There was also a selfie-graphic where visitors were able to take pictures of themselves inside the booth. The “selfie-booth” had numerous graphics that wrapped around the structure. The film Florence Foster Jenkins stars the iconic Meryl Streep and tells the story of a wealthy philanthropist for a desire to be a singer. She had no talent but was a prominent socialite in the New York art scene in the early 1900s. But who is the real-life person? Jenkins was born in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. She took piano until she was 15 and then married when she was 30 years to Dr. Frank Jenkins. The pair were separated only after 3 years and it was thought this is who she had gotten syphilis from. She moved to the big apple and started using her inheritance to program music recitals for women. During this time she fell for St. Clair Bayfield, a British actor. They became an item. Olson Visual worked on the new film Arrival that was released November 11, 2016. Some of the T3 structures were made with a backlit material. The structures looked incredible with the light behind it. T3 is a “connection system that allows you to create any configuration you need. You can reconfigure your booth into a fashion runway or stage for a one-night event and then back into a booth for the next day. It can allow you to turn a booth into a retail display by replacing your graphics with a veneer finish such as fabric, wood, or brushed nickel.” They installed them in numerous theaters around the Los Angeles area including: Santa Monica, Burbank, and Live LA in downtown. CineEurope is the most successful and longest-running convention in Europe for cinema exhibitors. The leaders in the industry came to Spain this year to seek the latest trends and new marketing tactics. There were both independent and international films present. The most new and best technologies were announced and Olson Visual captured audiences with their astonishing T3 structures. It showcased current films Star Trek Beyond and Ben Hur that hits the movie theaters on August 19th. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will hit theaters June 3rd of 2016. This action comedy stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, and Laura Linney. It is another movie to the TMNT empire that started as a toy franchise in the 1980s. After the 2014 film had exceeded financial expectations, producers gave the green light for the Out of Shadows sequel. Audiences should be warned that the cartoon characters are not exactly the same as prior renditions. Instead, they are beefed up looking and aren’t as cute and sweet as before. The critics have pointed out that it is more based on nostalgia for the franchise then trying to create an entertaining sequel. Olson Visual is proud to have worked on the Academy Award nominated films including Joy, Everest, Mad Max, The Martian, Steve Jobs, Straight Outta Compton, and The Danish Girl. On February 29th, the ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre. Some went home empty handed while others won numerous golds. One in particular was the science fiction film, Mad Max Fury Road which took home five Academy Awards including best: Production Design, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Sound Editing, Costume Design, and Makeup. Alicia Vikander took the gold home for her work in The Danish Girl. The Martian was nominated for Production Design, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing and Editing but went home empty handed. Sicario was nominated for Cinematography but lost to Revenant. Straight Outta Compton was a contender for Best Original Screenplay but instead the film Spotlight won which also won for Best Picture. Daddy’s Home is a new comedy directed by Sean Anders and stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. This is a follow-up to the action-comedy The Other Guys. The movie is about a mild-tempered executive named Brad who is a stepfather to two children. He later meets their biological dad, Dusty who is quite attractive and has a cool-manner. Brad feels quite intimidated. The two end up having a war of-who’s-the-best-father. The movie was released on Christmas day of 2015 and has become a box-office hit. Olson Visual created this large-scale wall graphic covering the side of the theater. OV has always been a leader in the graphic industry and known for both large and small jobs.
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation is the fifth installment in the series of films. Tom Cruise is once again the star who plays Ethan Hunt, an IMF agent. The film is an action-packed ride with excellent stunts including the opening act where Tom Cruises holds onto a plane while it is taking off. There was never a dull minute from start to end so this movie is highly recommended. The film opened July 31, 2015 with both critical and commercial success and $55.5 million at the U.S. box office.
